Want to Get Rich? Get Real.

Want to Get Rich?  Get Real.

I exchanged a very successful 13 year real estate career for a home based business in 2007.  I tossed out my business suits and high heels and exchanged them for shorts, T’s and sandals.  I tossed out the appointment book and alarm clock for waking up when I’m done sleeping and creating my day as I see fit.

One of my favorite books of all times is called “The Millionaire Next Door”.  In this New York Times best-selling book, Dr. Thomas J. Stanley uses over two decades worth of surveys, personal interviews with millionaires, and data to reveal the secrets for building wealth. He shattered the contemporary held beliefs about America’s rich – and how they got that way.

It is seldom inheritance or advanced degrees or even intelligence that builds fortunes. It’s more often the result of hard work, diligent savings, and living below your means.  The Millionaire Next Door reveals the common denominators that show up again and again among those who have accumulated wealth.

You never know.  Your next door neighbor who drives that 10 year old and lives in an average house and wears no name brand clothes may just be a millionaire.

If you haven’t read it, put it on your reading bucket list.  It’s worth the read.

When people ask me what it takes to be rich in a home based business, I tell them the richness I have is in time freedom.  I live a wonderful lifestyle with abundance but I’m not a millionaire yet.  I will be one day, but at the time of writing, I’m in that journey.

I ask people about that question and why they would ask me that, I think it’s because the on lookers see me on vacation all the time and not going to a “job”.  They have preconceived ideas about how much money I make.  Everything has their own idea of what “rich” is.

Did you know you don’t need a gazillion dollars to be free?

I think what most people I have the privilege of working with in a home based business really want in life, is not to be rich, as in more money than they can ever spend in a lifetime, but to be free.

There’s a lot to be said to being rich in time freedom, in travel capabilities, in charitable giving of time and resources, being debt free, a mortgage that’s paid off, college paid for, things like this.

And in order to be free, one has to have income to sustain that freedom as well as a level of financial security to sleep well at night.

You can’t WISH your way to rich

How many times have we all said, “I wish I was rich.”

I have rich friends.  There’s nothing they can’t just buy.  They don’t look at price tags.  They have multiple homes, they travel lavishly and their closets are as big as my house.  They also have rich hearts.  Hearts to serve, to give to causes they believe in and hearts filled with great love and purpose.  They believe anything is possible.

In having rich friends, I can tell you about their conversations and mindsets. They don’t believe anything they want to do can’t be done.  They say, “I have an idea and I’m going to it.”  And they get to work on accomplishing it.  It’s really fun to watch.  It’s inspiring.

It doesn’t matter what comes at them.

It doesn’t matter the time they have to commit to the project.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.

They’re laser focused on the end result and they just go do it.

If you asked them what it takes to be rich, they’ll tell you something like this:

Do what you love so it doesn’t feel like work, create solutions to specific needs that people have, put a vision behind it, create a product, get it to work and don’t quit.  Just get real about what it takes.

The “Getting REAL” is …

Real about your conversations. (your self talk)
Real about your mindset. (your belief system)
Real about the work it takes to make it happen. (you gotta work)
Real about the excuses you’re making.  (make none!)
Real about the determination it takes to succeed. (be a bulldozer)
Real about the vision, desire and commitment (don’t quit)
Real about the joy (the joy in doing what you love.  It doesn’t feel like work.  It’s purpose.)

Contrast that to the the not rich.

I don’t know about you, but the conversations I hear as I’m out and about in public is full of poverty thoughts and mindsets.  People are oblivious to the fact that day in and day out, they create their reality through the words, thoughts, beliefs, daily habits and actions they engage in.

It doesn’t matter where I’m at.  I could be at the doctor’s office, or in line at the grocery store, or at the gym, etc.  Most people love to focus on and talk about their problems and who doesn’t know that misery loves company. Right? I choose to believe they just have never been taught how to speak life and victory into their circumstances and how to take action toward having what they do want.  Because if they knew how to change, at least they would have that opportunity.

People are miserable in their circumstances and their conversations are full of “wishing”.

  • They WISH they could do this or that.
  • They WISH they could buy this or that.
  • They WISH they had the money to go here.
  • They WISH they could quit their jobs.
  • They WISH they could travel more.
  • They WISH they had money to buy better health care.
  • They WISH they had money to send the kids to college.
  • They WISH they had more time for hobbies.

If you want to get rich, however you define that, you first need to get real about what it takes.

Rich people marketing online do this:

  • Find a need in the marketplace
  • Create or offer a great product or service.
  • Get your message in front of the people whose problem you can fix.
  • Present the offer through automation
  • Deliver exceptional value.
  • Ask for the sale
  • Handle objections
  • Get paid.

YES because it makes sense to the concept is simple to understand.

NO because it takes work and getting past fears but the rewards are worth it.

Running an brick and mortar business requires operational expertise, inventory, employees, so many other things plus a tremendous financial investment, not to mention a lot of hard work.  This entrepreneur traded a 40 hour work week with a job for a 60-80 hour a week business and a large debt.

An internet business is so much more doable.

  • Start for under $5000 or even much less.
  • Commuting costs and other workplace expenses are completely eliminated.
  • There are no occupancy costs.
  • Payroll is typically kept to a minimum or eliminated altogether.
  • You work, but you can work smart, get the education, implement and you can create full time income part time.

The internet today is like California during the gold rush.  There’s No Recession Online!  We live in an exciting time when we can take a product and market that online to make the cash register ring.

An online business isn’t for everybody, especially for those who are closed minded to learning how to market using the internet.

But if you’re seriously considering venturing into the world of legitimate online business, take you already love to talk about, already have some excitement and passion for, find an affiliate product around that interest that pays high ticket commissions and start your home based business with that.

Then, take your profits, and invest into other financial vehicles where your money works for you.  You’ll want to get with your financial planner for advice based on your risk tolerance.

bill gates on network marketing

Robert Kiyosaki, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Donald Trump and a slew of other entrepreneur extraordinaires agree that network marketing is a perfect small business to step into for all people of all ages and backgrounds.

So while I personally have my hands in other financial interests, money making hobbies and entrepreneurial endeavors, I keep a network marketing and direct sales model in my wealth portfolio.

If you want to know what I’m doing in the home based arena and have done since 2007, you can check it out here and then let’s get on the phone and chat.

I wish you ALL the best in life my friend.

Have an awesome ‘Get Real’ day and take those actions to go get what you want.

    Hey Debbie,
You do not know me, but I really feel like I know you. I found your website by accident, because I signed up with Empower Network and as an after thought decided to see if it was a scam. I wish I would have done that first because I would have signed up under you. I have watched everyone of your video's that I can find. I feel like you are a God filled, warm and loving person that truley gives back. I just started dabbling on the internet because I am looking for another source of income. I signed up on November 7th with Empower, but I have not done anything. I have tried all of the free safelist to no avail. Tonight I sat and listened through your 7 day bootcamp and I got a different point of view. I was just about to give up on this dream, because I was going around in a circle signing up for this and that as I came across it. But I am going to start all over and regroup thanks to your videos and do it from a pay it forward, instead of what is in it for me. That makes so much more sense. I am on a very limited budget, but I know that will change with my new way of thinking. I would love to be able to one day partner up with you in your primary company, but I have to make a lot of sales first. So hold on I am coming soon…….Thanks again and I will meet you at the top.
