Yesterday, I had a lunch appointment (had my favorite….wild Alaskan grilled salmon, side of asparagus, 2 small red potatoes and hot tea) with my business and accountability partner which I look forward to around this time every year.
The conversation and purpose of the call was probably the most important of any we have during the year.
We talk almost daily, go over plans and ideas and hold each other accountable for what we said we were going to do to move our businesses forward, however, this was different.
What was different about this than most of the rest we share was the context of what was said.
I’ve learned through early trial and error and embracing mentorship from those who have been successful before me, that there are key components for success in business. I take them very seriously.
- First, you have to visualize what you want to accomplish.
- Second, you have to put into words your intentions.
- Third, evaluate what worked and didn’t work in the past year and what changes need to be made.
- Fourth, you have to strategically plan and implement the blueprint.
Doesn’t it make sense to know where you’re heading so you can get there?
And this is what we did.
She shared with me her vision for 2012 and I shared mine.
We went into detail about what we saw for ourselves, the vehicles we will use to get there and masterminded a game plan to accomplish it.
We started with our 5 year plan.
We broke that down into a one year plan.
We broke it down into months and actionable steps that we will take each of the days to accomplish week by week our intentions.
Sadly, most people who join a business opportunity simply do so with the immediate goal of just making a quick buck, and lots of them. There’s no visualization of a business, no planning, no long term goals. There’s no assessment of what worked this past year and what needs changing.
Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail
Going about planning a business like that is simply setting a stage for failure. Let’s be honest here, when the quick buck requires them to plan, strategize, learn and implement, they are oftentimes not up for the task and quit.
- Have you given some thought about where you want to be in 2012 and how you’re going to get there?
- Are you doing strategic planning with a pen and paper?
- Are you dreaming and visualizing what you want your life to look like?
- Are you embracing the power within you through mindset and personal development?
I really hope you are! It’s fun! It keeps the entrepreneur hopeful and focused!
So many times people just settle for what they perceive as “the cards dealt to them”. So they live that life of mundane, boring, struggle and are consumed with all the things that are wrong which only give way and create more of the “sameness” in their lives.
How about this coming year, if you have not done so yet, right now make a conscience effort to change those old non-serving thoughts and create something beautiful.
Do something different. I know it may not be the popular thinking…. the thinking of those closest to you, but rather it’s your thinking, your plans and dreams and isn’t it about time you started toward that?
I’ll be writing between now and the end of the year, many articles to help you along the path of thinking differently, to achieve a different result and some action plans you can take.
What are your plans for 2012? Feel free to share in the comments… I’d love to hear from you!
PS: I’m looking to help inspire and mentor in their home based business. See what I’m up to HERE and partner with me.
