When I was first introduced to internet marketing strategies,  my first assignment by my sponsor was to put up a personal branded website (today we would use blogs).

Little did I know that telling my story about how I went from a 13 year real estate career to the market crash to a successful online marketer would create financial rewards in my business.

Let’s talk a little bit about personal branding because here’s the reality of joining a network marketing company.

When an individual joins a network marketing or MLM business as an affiliate, they receive a replicated website from their company to market from.

Here’s the problem with that.

Every representative from that company has the same website which brands the product and company name, not you as a business owner for your own independent endeavor.  Oh sure, they’ll have a place for you to put your picture and a little bio, but it’s all branded to the company and their products.

If that’s how it is, why would a stranger pick you over the other thousands of reps?

They shouldn’t!

How does you stand out if everyone is using the cookie cutter website?

You don’t!

To stand out, you want to brand YOU, not your company and leave with VALUE, not your biz op.

Here’s what you do.

Create a blog.

On your blog, put all your business information but the whole blog is about YOU and your value.

Create an “about me” page and share your story.

Create articles that talk about your passion for why you do what you do.

Write blogs about what you’re learning as a home business entrepreneur.

By incorporating your face, your voice and your story into your blog, you  begin to make a name for yourself.  When people think of the company you represent, you want them to think of you.

When I started marketing and sending people to my personally branded blog, I began to receive phone calls from people who enjoyed a relaxed conversation with me.  It feels very much like taking a call from a friend.  This began to happen more and more frequently and my business became fun.

I began making sales.  Happy phone calls plus commissions are fun!  I could see that the more I sent people to my value content on my blog, the more my phone would ring.

No more buying leads for me.  I finally became the hunted through attraction marketing and personal branding.


What’s the Secret to Personal Branding?

People are looking for opportunities to make money online and we all know there’s a fair amount of scams and dishonest people hiding behind websites ready to take our money.

It’s important to be upfront and personal with your prospects so they can know who you are and begin to build a relationship with you.  Bottom line is that people want to do business with those they know, like and trust.

When you have an online business the ONLY way to establish a relationship is to let them know who you are through your blog and social media because you obviously are not face to face.

Many people don’t utilize personal branding because they just are not comfortable putting themselves out there.  They want to hide.  They want people to just go to their replicated website that the company gives them and buy lots of products and never have to be seen.

Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way.

Here’s Some Tips for Personal Branding

1.  Get a blog.  You can do that here.  It’s $25/mo.

2. Be your authentic self.  Don’t try to be somebody you’re not.  Be the best you, you can be.  People will connect with you for who you are and you will attract people that are like you.

3.  Post pictures of yourself, your family, your pets, enjoying life, being on vacation, etc.

4.  Share personal information about yourself (keeping it general, never your address or drama) like where you grew up, what you like to do, what your passions are, why you joined the business you did, hobbies and community work you enjoy, sports and clubs you belong to, things like this.  What this does is allows people to connect to you and find something in common that you have together.

This type of marketing has allowed people to be comfortable with me enough that they will pick up the phone for a relaxed conversation.  They feel like they know me and we laugh and talk about what it was that they connected with me on, sometimes it’s foster parenting, sometimes its karate or scrapbooking or camping and hiking, but through my story, the person on the other end of the phone resonated and connected with me.

Network marketing is about relationships and there’s no better way to help the relationship along than through fun, non-invasive personal branding.

It works every time.
